NYT ENDORSES OBAMA! (sort of)

Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 03:13:28 AM PDT

The NYT has an EYE OPENING editorial called "Supreme Court on the Brink".

http://www.nytimes.com/...

It basically says what many of us have been thinking but it really sinks in once you really think about it.

The next president will determine which direction the supreme court will go.  It will either remain essentially a 5 to 4 court that can swing either way or it will become an extremist right wing court.

It's time to really get serious about this election.  Check out the NYT editorial about the Supreme Court.  The NYT essentially "endorses" Obama.

I know many people are upset because Obama decided to vote for the FISA "compromise" and appears to be taking various "centrist" positions (I don't think that is really the case) but the reality is that we HAVE to get this man elected.  Obama said it best on 6/6/08 when he spoke to his staff in Chicago that essentially because they had won they now HAVE TO WIN.

Reading the NYT editorial should scare the crap out of anyone.  It's time for ALL HANDS ON DECK.  This election is NO JOKE FOLKS.  Whom ever is the next president will shape American lives for GENERATIONS TO COME (I have a 5 year old son thus this matters).

This court is in a balance leaning to the right:

The key to understanding the term lies in the fragility of the court’s center. Some of the most important decisions came on 5-to-4 votes — a stark reminder that the court is just one justice away from solidifying a far-right majority that would do great damage to the Constitution and the rights of ordinary Americans.

This is the REALITY if McCain wins folks:

One more conservative appointment would shift the balance to the far-right bloc.

If that happens, the court can be expected to push even further in a dangerous direction. It would most likely begin stripping away civil liberties, like the habeas rights vindicated in the Guantánamo case. The constitutional protection of women’s reproductive rights could be eliminated. The court might well strike down laws that protect the environment, workers’ rights and the rights of racial and religious minorities.

Knowing just how fragile this court is, the NYT is giving a wake up call to liberals and moderates and essentially "endorsing" Obama:

The court was teetering on the brink in this term. Voters should keep that firmly in mind when they go to the polls in November.

As you can see that this election is a MUST WIN for Obama.  If you are still upset about FISA or Obama's supposed move to the center, than it's time to (as Ed Rendell said) GET OVER IT.

CONTINUE to contribute money to the Obama campaign or if you are still angry than donate to the DNC (they need it for the RNC is starting ATTACK ADS against Obama this weekend).  CONTINUE to participate.  CONTINUE to write diaries.  CONTINUE to volunteer.

But most of all continue to VOTE OBAMA.
